Pesticide impacts on farmland bird populations
Kutzendőrferová, Adéla ; Reif, Jiří (advisor) ; Grünwald, Jan (referee)
Pesticides are problematic chemicals that are found in a variety of environments. These substances tend to accumulate in living organisms, where they decomposite very slowly and can have a negative impact on bird populations. This is why some chemicals are still detected in these environments today, even years after their use has been banned, and may continue to affect organisms. The aim of my bachelor thesis was to conduct a literature search on the impact of pesticides on farmland bird populations. The first part of the thesis focuses on pesticides, their history, their division into different systems and their effects. The second part of the thesis then discusses the overall effects of pesticide use on farmland bird populations, particularly on breeding success and abundance. In this part, several studies have been collected that confirm the negative effect of pesticides on bird abundance, but not all of these studies are representative of real situations in the landscape. Finally, the paper assesses the overall role of pesticides in the observed bird declines and also presents suggestions to address the current negative trends. The thesis points to the need for expanded research studies that reflect actual conditions in agricultural landscapes to reveal the true extent of the effects of these...
The positive effect of sex on our health
VYDROVÁ, Anna
The aim of this study is to shed light on important concepts that are often neglected or underestimated in today's society, to map the area of sexual behaviour, to find out how can sex positively influence our body and mind, what habits our society has, what history tells us about sex. The extensive topic of sexuality is slightly controversial, it is all the more interesting that relatively little attention is paid to it on a social and professional level although it is an integral part of us. The literature of the history of sexual activity is full of "skeletons in the closet" and reveals countless surprises, complexes, injustices and unhealed wounds. This work compares this information with reality and current sources. Another part is devoted to the constantly and currently much-discussed topic of battle men versus women. We will also reveal differences that are unrecognizable at first glance. By describing the body, behaviour and social status, we find out that they have undergone a really long development. However, the intention is not to promote one sex above the other, nor to set imaginary boundaries between them. On the contrary, the work aims at concluding a peace agreement and expressing the equal importance of both men and women on the principle of mutual respect. Finally, in the practical part compiled in the form of a questionnaire, I specified the actions, thinking and awareness of young people about human sexuality and its relationship to health. The benefit is current information from the lives of students and their peers. As I dare say that sex education is unfortunately very neglected and underestimated at the moment, any new useful information for readers would be my relief and immense personal success.
Sources of ellagitannins and their effects on human organism
Lazarová, Zuzana ; Siatka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Karlíčková, Jana (referee)
CHARLES UNIVERSITY PHARMACEUTICAL FACULTY IN HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY AND PHARMACEUTICAL BOTANY Author: Zuzana Lazarová Title of diploma thesis: Sources of ellagitannins and their effects on human organism Supervisor: doc. PharmDr. Tomáš Siatka, CSc. Diploma thesis 2021/2022, pages: 87 This diploma thesis is a literature review which focuses on an overview of ellagitannins, their sources, bioavailability, metabolism in the human body and effects on the human organism. Ellagitannins belong to the class of hydrolysable tannins which in the human gastrointestinal tract undergo hydrolysis to form ellagic acid. There is a high content of ellagitannins in the families Elaeagnaceae, Fagaceae, Geraniaceae, Lythraceae, Onagraceae and in some species of the family Rosaceae. Ellagitannins are found in medicinal plants as well as in commonly available foods, especially in berries and nuts. The intestinal microflora has the ability to metabolize ellagic acid to more bioavailable urolithins, but there are strong interindividual differences in the microbial conversion of ellagitannins among the population. Clinical studies provide evidence of the pharmacological activities of ellagitannins in many diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, oncological diseases, central...
Coffeine, its effects on health and its consumption among students of selected secondary schools
Kovaničová, Eva ; Váchová, Alena (advisor) ; Kučírek, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis carries the title "Caffeine, its effects on health and its consumption among students of selected secondary schools". In my diploma thesis, I am interested in how many students of selected secondary schools rely on stimulating effects of caffeine during their studies and how caffeine influences them. The key task of the diploma thesis is to find out at what level the knowledge of students of the first and final years of selected secondary schools are in the area of caffeine drinks and beverages, how much relevant information they have about caffeine influence on health and behaviour. Also, how many and what types of caffeine products the pupils most often consume. A questionnaire is used as a research tool to obtain this information. By analysing and comparing the data, I get interesting results that indicate a high consumption of beverages and caffeine-containing foods and show a lack of knowledge about caffeine. At the end of the practical part, I come up with a recommendation for a lesson in Health education, which should be devoted not only to caffeine, its sources and products containing caffeine, but also to its consumption by young people, the risk of addiction and prevention. Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmaceutical Botany and Ecology Candidate: Pavlína Šramarová Supervisor: PharmDr. Jana Karlíčková, Ph.D Bachelor thesis 2013/2014: Effects of flavonoids on cardiovascular system, pp. 54 Flavonoids are plant secondary metabolities. Flavonoids have a positive influence on human health and show antioxidant activity. They scavenge free radicals and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases and cancer. This bachelor thesis explores mechanisms of their action, relationships between structure of flavonoids and antioxidant activity as well as their potential benefit in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, this work provides an overview of the significant effects of certain plants containing flavonoids such as Camellia sinensis, Vitis vinifera, Achillea millefolium, genus Artemisia etc. Key words: flavonoids, the cardiovascular system, effects, antioxidants
The second level students awareness of elementary school about alcohol's effects and risks
Heinrichová, Zdeňka ; Váchová, Alena (advisor) ; Hanušová, Jaroslava (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with one of the most frequently used addictive stuffs - alcohol. The theoretical part contains the characteristics of the addiction and the syndrom of risky behaviour in the adolescent age, it deals with the topic of drugs and drug addiction. Later, it investigates alcohol - its characteristics, metabolism and intake, its effects on single organ systems, the levels and types of alcohol addiction. It focuses on the prevention of using addictive stuffs and alcohol and on the treatment of alcohol addiction. The practical part of the thesis settles the targets and the questions of the research. The main goal of the practical part, eventually of the whole thesis, was to analyze the basic school students' (sixth grade and higher) awareness of alcohol, its effects and the risk of it being consumed. As well as this, the aim was to find out whether the pupils have any experience with preventive programs and where they get in touch with these. The method of quantity research was used to hit these targets - semi-structured questionnaires for the pupils of basic schools (sixth grade and higher), followingly, school prevention methodologists were asked written questions. The questionnaries were filled in by 120 pupils of the 6th up to the 9th class of chosen basic schools. The results...
Vliv hiporehabilitace na člověka a koňský hřbet
Lörincová, Tereza
The main issue of this dissertation is the influence hiporehabilitation on the human body and the horseback. This thesis consist of the recherche and my own results. Recherche concentrate on the characteristic of all spheres of the hiporehabilitation, history and the effect. Furthermore, on diseases which are arising in particular spheres. For the treatment of results for this thesis was made a qualitative research with the help of questionaires which was consequently evaluated. Within the framework of the research I visited two centres and I found out all of the available information about clients who attend hiporehabilitation and about horses which the hiporehabilitation was practising on. The main task is evaluated in the end-influence of the therapy on the human body and the influence on the horses. The thesis finally lead in the help to relevant centres to reach some informationes about the effect on their clients.
Ověření účinku některých herbicidních přípravků na druhové spektrum plevelů v obilninách
VLČEK, Ladislav
Today weeds belong to very significant harmful agents in the protection of field crops. The occurrence is influenced by a number of factors (method of cultivation, soil cultivation, soil-climatic conditions, nutrient content and application of herbicides, etc.) The aim of this bachelor thesis is to broaden the knowledge about the biology, occurrence and harmfulness of weed species in cultivated cereals and to verify the effect of some herbicidal preparations after an application to weeds. An evaluation of the species spectrum of weeds occurring at the monitored sites in winter wheat was performed in a small-plot experiment.

CHARLES UNIVERSITY PHARMACEUTICAL FACULTY IN HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL BOTANY AND ECOLOGY Title of the Diploma thesis: ELLAGITANNINS - OCCURENCE, METABOLISM AND EFFECTS ON HUMAN BODY Candidate: Bc. Karin Raabová Supervisor: PharmDr. Jana Karlíčková, Ph.D. Diploma thesis 2016/2017, pp. 77 Ellagitannins belongs to a class of hydrolysable tannins, which are susceptible to hydrolysis to give ellagic acid in the digestive tract. Ellagitannins occur in many plant families, for example plants in the family Rosaceae, Myrtaceae or Lythraceae. There are naturally found in some fruits (pomegranate, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, grapes), but also in the seeds of walnuts and thus form a diverse group of bioactive polyphenols with anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Special instrumental methods (HPLC, DAD, MS) are most often used for subsequent evidence of occurrence of these compounds in plants and their identification. This diploma thesis is a literature review, which aimed at processing the available knowledge about the ellagitannins. Attention was focused on the biological activity demonstrated in an animal or human organism. Keywords: ellagitannins, occurrence, metabolism, effects, human body
